Pheno is coming to the Malt Shed yard October 18th (tickets sold on the door, for just $15) You won’t want to miss this one, if you haven’t heard of Pheno, maybe you’ve heard of or seen Jess Green? Most recently Jess performed as part of an all female band led by Katie Noonan for the closing ceremony at the Commonwealth Games.
PHENO (pronounced fee-no) is electric guitarist and vocalist Jess Green’s pseudonym. As Pheno, she is pioneering her own style of ArtPop, influenced by artists such as Tune-Yards and St Vincent with a huge nod to 80’s heroes David Bowie and Talking Heads. Pheno’s music layers shimmering vocals, scorching electric guitars, synthesisers, and backbeats. Lyrical material ranges from Sci-Fi musings in utero (There Are Voices Out There’) to ethereal callings from the deep (‘Shadow in The Water’). The band is a dream team, Jess has collaborated with master drummer Bree van Reyk (Holly Throsby/Paul Kelly/Sally Seltman) and synths / vocalist Alyx Dennison powerhouse (Kyu & Alyx Dennison) as well as other special guests. Songs feature Green’s own jazz influenced ‘weirdo rock’ lead guitar.
She has performed on many of Australia’s great stages and festivals and toured through Europe and Asia.
See you on the 18th for some more greta live music at the Malt Shed
